NOCTURNAL WHISPERS
When I make the piano mandala’s I always use old pianos that I have scrapped for their historic and well made parts. The inspiration for this piece was multifold. The piano parts are from an 1860’s Irish piano was was quite rare as there were a few piano manufacturers in Ireland. The ‘sticker’s’ were stopped being made like this in the 1870’s-80’s as was the damper assembly. Because the stickers protruded up from the keys, there was an opportunity to have a 3D effect with the Indonesian mask ‘floating’ on the red string above the purple center piece. It literally appears as if it is floating, whispering to us ….quiet, listen, what is the muse singing?
