MASON & HAMLIN MANDALA
In the 19th and 20th centuries Mason & Hamlin has been one of the premiere piano manufacturers in the world, all made in Boston. In the 19th century through the teens, they also made exceptional pump organs. The keys and reeds on this mandala are from an 1885 M & H pump organ that had exquisite woodwork outside and old world craftsmanship inside. On this piece, also featured are 1880’s ‘birdcage dampers’ with a Columbia crank phonograph reproducer as the center piece magnifying the music this ancient organ once played. How many weddings, church hymns, funerals, sing alongs has this ol girl heard. The possibilities enrapture the mind.
