Cabinet of Curiosities
Cabinets of curiosities were notable collections of objects from the 19th century. They were filled with preserved animals, horns, tusks, skeletons, minerals, as well as other interesting man-made objects: sculptures wondrously old, wondrously fine or wondrously small; clockwork automata; ethnographic specimens from exotic locations. This piece is from a 1783 Scottish grandfather clock top and adorned with 17th century Danish artwork, 19th century ephemera and mechanical novelties.
