Quicksilver
Quicksilver literally means ‘living silver.’ Over generations of instruments being perfected, there were moments when high craftsmanship was the rage of the times. The turn of the 19th to 20th centuries was one of those eras when live music was blossoming in homes, parks, street corners, parlors, new concert venues. The silver on these instruments and scroll work in and around the horns was a separate art to the instrument themselves. Paired and mounted on a rare burled oak 1890’s piano panel and being heard through a hand crank phonograph reproducer, this piece comes alive in ‘living silver.’
